About Fiona
Fiona Shen is a student currently attending Havergal College. At Havergal, Fiona has earned the award of distinction for two consecutive years and taken multiple advanced placement (AP) courses to enhance her learning. She has had lots of public speaking experiences involving debate and MUN. She is involved in four different styles of debate: British parliamentary, WSDC, Canadian parliamentary, and Public Forum. Outside of public speaking, she enjoys playing ice hockey and has recently joined her school’s U20 rugby team.
Her passion for public speaking has channeled into different leadership positions such as being the Head of Debate, intermediate MUN executive at her school, and her school’s athletic magazine writer. She is the founder of her school’s public speaking club which introduces different forms of public speaking to prepare students for competitive forms of public speaking such as debate, DECA, and MUN.
Fiona channels her passion in MUN and debate through judging debate tournaments, chairing at MUN conferences, and hosting debate tournaments. Furthermore, Fiona has experiences in being a Public Forum debate coach at Bonday, a debate institution, where she teaches one on one lessons and helps students prepare for major tournaments like the Harvard Invitational Forensics Public Forum tournament.
Fiona hopes to make public speaking increasingly accessible through expanding the USG community. After two years of pandemic protocols, Fiona aims to bring USG in person through the USG Initiate events at different schools starting in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area). She looks forward to upcoming USG initiate events, incoming branches, and USG weekly newsletters. Fiona could not be more proud of the hard work every USG executive has put into USG!
